Due to the Corona pandemic, the Oberammergau Passion Play 2020 cannot take place from 16 May to 4 October 2020 as planned, but must be postponed by two years. The performances are now scheduled from 14 May to 2 October 2022.

Here you will find answers to the most frequently asked questions about your bookings.

General questions

Has the Passion Play 2020 been cancelled?

No, the Passion Play 2020 has been postponed by two years due to the Corona pandemic and will take place from 14 May to 02 October 2022.

Do tickets or arrangements already purchased remain valid for 2022?

No, but you can convert your tickets/arrangements into a booking for 2022.
To do so, please fill out the form (PDF download) and send it including the tickets, if they have already been sent to you, by post to the following address:

Please indicate your desired date and alternative dates. If you have booked travel protection, this will be rebooked free of charge. We will do our best to fulfill your wishes and accommodate you at the same place or at your original seat, but we cannot guarantee this.

Can I also return my tickets?

Of course you can also cancel your booking.

Please note that only the ticket or arrangement price and not the advance booking fee (12%) will be refunded.
We ask for your understanding that ticket only bookings can only be refunded if the already delivered tickets are sent back in the original. If you no longer have your original ticket, please send an e-mail with the subject "affidavit insurance" to support@oberammergau.de. We will then send it to you.
If you have booked an arrangement, you did not receive the original tickets yet, so you do not have to send them to us.

Is the given address in Hannover, to which I should send my tickets, correct?

Yes, we work together with the company aovo Touristik AG from Hannover for the distribution of the Passion Play. It also takes over the reverse transaction.

When exactly does the 2022 Passion Play take place?

The 42nd Oberammergau Passion Play will take place from 14 May to 2 October 2022.

Performance days

Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday. There are no performances on Mondays and Wednesdays.

When can I buy tickets for 2022?

Advance sales for 2022 starts on October 5th 2020.

Are there also reduced tickets available?

There is a limited contingent of discounted tickets for the following groups:
- pupils and students up to the age of 25 years
- People with disabilities (degree of disability at least 70%)
- Wheelchair users

Processing of requests

How long does the processing time take?

We are currently receiving many customer enquiries. Please understand that longer processing times of 90 days may occur. But you can be sure that nobody will be forgotten. We will do everything possible to contact you as soon as possible. For this reason, we ask you to refrain from making further inquiries or calls. We will get back to you.

How do I know that my form has arrived?

We ask you to enter an e-mail address on the form. If you provide your e-mail address, you will receive an intermediate reply by e-mail after your application has been received. If you do not provide an e-mail address, please understand that we cannot send interim notifications by post.

Do I get a response when my returned tickets are received?

We are currently receiving a lot of customer enquiries. Please understand that this may take longer to process. But you can be sure that nobody will be forgotten. We will do everything possible to contact you as soon as possible. For this reason, we ask you to refrain from making further inquiries or calls. We will get back to you.

Has my request or ticket arrived? I sent it weeks ago and have not yet received a refund or confirmation.

The postal delivery works. Please understand that there may be longer processing times of 90 days. We will get back to you. If you have entered an e-mail address in the form, you will receive an interim reply by e-mail after your application has been received.

Do I have to send the ticket by registered mail?

No, that's not necessary.

Is there a deadline for sending in the request?

No. However, requests are processed after receipt, i.e. the sooner you send the form the sooner you will receive your refund or the greater the chance of getting your desired places.

Questions about payment

How will the refund be made?

In principle, refunds will be made to the means of payment you used for your reservation. Examples: If you paid for your booking by credit card, your credit card will be credited. If the credit card you used has expired in the meantime, please send us your bank details or new credit card details. If you have paid for your booking by bank transfer or EC card, your bank account will be credited. You also have the option of informing us on your refund form of your desired refund destination.

I have not yet received my tickets, but the amount has already been paid. What should I do?

If you have not yet received your original ticket yet, please send an e-mail with the subject "affidavit insurance" to support@oberammergau.de. We will get back to you afterwards.

I have booked tickets for 2020 but have not yet transferred the invoice amount. I would like to cancel the booking. Can I simply not pay the invoice or will I receive a reminder?

Please do not pay the invoice amount. Please send us a request for a refund / rebooking (PDF download) to support@oberammergau.de.

Until when do I get my money back in case of cancellation?

We are currently receiving many customer enquiries. Please understand that it can take up to 90 days to process your request.

Why are the advance booking fee and shipping not refunded in case of cancellation?

The advance booking fee is the consideration of the customer for the mediation activities of the advance booking office. The agency has provided the service owed by it by mediating the conclusion of the contract for the ticket between the customer and the municipality of Oberammergau as the organiser. In this context, the cancellation of the ticket contract is not prejudicial to commission. This does not affect the claim for remuneration.

I have taken out an insurance policy. What happens to it?

If your booking is converted for 2022, we will also rebook the insurance cover. If you cancel your booking, unfortunately the insurance cannot be refunded. You can find more information on this in this PDF (download).

Rebooking

Will my booked seats remain valid?

Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee this. However, you will have the opportunity to indicate your desired ticket category, row and seat on the request for a refund / rebooking (PDF download). We will try to fulfill your request.

I would like to rebook, but I would like a better ticket category or a better seat.

I would like to come again on the weekend of Pentecost, which is on a later date in 2022. Is that possible?

Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee that. On the request for request for a refund / rebooking (PDF download) you have the possibility to indicate your desired date. We will try to fulfill your request.

I would like to rebook, but in 2020 there were no more seats available next to each other. Can I get adjacent seats in 2022?

We were a small group and not all of us want to rebook. What do I have to write on the form?

Please indicate exactly which persons want to rebook and which persons want to cancel.

I have bought several tickets, do I have to fill out a separate form for each one?

No. This is only necessary if you have several booking numbers.

Who can cancel or rebook the tickets? Only the person who has booked them?

In principle, only the person in whose name the tickets were booked can cancel or rebook them. If the person differs from the applicant, a confirmation from the person in whose name the tickets were booked must be enclosed.

Can I return or rebook the tickets directly on site, in Oberammergau?

No, please send us your request for a refund / rebooking (PDF download).

I'd like to rebook. When will I receive the tickets for 2022?

In all likelihood, tickets will be sent out from the first quarter of 2021 onwards, as bookings for 2020 will first have to be reversed. However, you will receive a confirmation by e-mail if you rebook.

Arrangements / Packages

What do I have to send along if I have booked an arrangement? I have not yet received any tickets.

Since you would have received the tickets on site, it is sufficient to send the request for a refund / rebooking (PDF download) to support@oberammergau.de.

I booked an arrangement. If I change my booking, will I stay in the same accommodation?

We cannot guarantee this at the moment, as we are in the process of reversing the booking. On the request for a refund / rebooking (PDF download), however, you have the possibility to indicate your desired accommodation. Please enter this. We will try to consider your request.

I would like to rebook for 2022, but I would like to stay in a better accommodation.
