Nearly 400 years ago the history of the Passion Play began. The plague raged in many parts of Europe and did not spare Oberammergau either.

In 1633 the Oberammergau villagers promised to perform the suffering, death and resurrection of Christ every tenth year, in so far as no one was to die of the plague anymore. The villagers were answered by God and therefore in 1634 the first Passion Play took place. The promise has been kept until today. From May 16th to October 4th 2020 the 42nd Passion Play will take place in Oberammergau.

We have been and are currently being alerted by affected consumers to the offers of tickets for the Passion Play 2020 via the ticket provider Viagogo.

They offer tickets for the Passion Plays 2020 at prices many times higher than the regular ticket price, stating that performances are "sold out" or that "only a few tickets left". This information is not correct. There are still enough single tickets for the performances (except for the premiere day) on our website. Depending on the category, the prices are between EUR 30 and EUR 180.

We have taken legal action against Viagogo because of these misleading statements. The Munich Regional Court (Landgericht München) has now issued a temporary injunction, against which Viagogo can appeal, prohibiting Viagogo from providing such information.
